Senate Petitioned Over Appointments In Uni Agric, Makurdi

Idoma people of Benue state, have expressed dissatisfaction over the lopsided appointments of principal officers and nominal staff of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.

This was contained in a petition filed by Chief Adoka Adaji, on behalf of ‘Opiatoha K’Idoma’, a foremost socio-cultural group in Idoma land.

The petition which was addressed to the president of the senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and dated 27th July, 2016, was, however, refered to the senate committee on ethics, privileges and public petitions.

At the public hearing organized by the committee on Thursday, both the petitioners and the management of the university were invited, but only the petitioners honoured the invitation.

Chief Adoka Adaji, the general secretary and Prince Yemi Itodo, acting PRO of the group, who announced appearances on behalf of the petitioners; also accused the federal character commission ( FCC) of complicity in the appointment of the registrar.

Nonsense! Allocation of Benue State recruits to the Nigeria Defense Academy for more than twenty years now goes exclusivey to the Idoma Nation. This impropriety has systematically led to the marginalization of Tiv people in the Armed Forces. This marginalization was on-going long before the Federal University of Agriculture was established in Makurdi. I find it curious that Opiatoha K’IdomaI would petition the Senate over employment disparity at the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi but NOT the endemic employment disparity at the Nigeria Defense Academy with respect to the equitable distribution of Benue State allocation.

These group petitioning are not serious. With all the problems in Benue, this is all they can think of? How about petition the Federal Government to fix federal roads in Benue? As for marginalisation of the Tiv nation in Nigerian Defence Academy, we actually have a lot of Tiv military men I remember Malu was even Chief of Army Staff, Inienge, and serving Colonels et al in the Nigerian Airforce,Nigerian Navy so that one has been solved.
